Anchal Khanna, M.S., is originally from Bombay, India. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Bombay University in 1995 and her Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology from the same university in 1997. She continued her journey in the mental health field with a Master of Science degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Northern Illinois University in Illinois in 2002. Some of her significant work experiences included her position as a staff therapist at University North Florida’s Counseling Center, and as an instructor in psychology at an undergraduate institution in Bombay.
When working with clients, Anchal prefers to use a collaborative and respectfully curious stance as a therapist. In her therapeutic conversations, she draws significantly from post-modern approaches of narrative therapy and the feminist school of thought. The view that “people are not their problems” is at the core of her philosophy. In her dialogue with clients, she encourages them to connect with their resources of strength, contextualize their problems and re-write a more empowered and authentic story of themselves.
Some of Anchal’s clinical interests include working with issues related to sexual assault, depression, relationship and family, couples counseling, cultural diversity, self esteem development and anxiety.
Anchal is stimulated by critical multicultural research and continues to seek out both training and outreach opportunities of multicultural appreciation. On a personal level, she enjoys messing with art, watching movies, running and ‘just being home’.
