Maryann Boucher, M.A., grew up in Massachusetts and got her B.S. in Nursing at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. She worked in medical and inpatient psychiatric nursing prior to and during her graduate studies in psychology. In 2007, she received her M.A. in clinical psychology at Alliant International University in San Francisco, and is currently working toward her PsyD.

Prior to starting her pre-doctoral internship at CAPS, Ms. Boucher gained clinical psychology experience in a variety of settings including working as a crisis line counselor and as a counselor at a residential substance abuse treatment facility for adolescent boys. She also worked at a nonprofit community clinic where she worked with adults who sought therapy for help with depression, anxiety, anger, and relationship problems.

Ms. Boucher’s therapeutic approach is principally integrative, drawing largely from interpersonal, cognitive-behavioral and feminist theories. She values a collaborative, curious and flexible stance with her clients and strives to create a warm and safe environment that allows clients to simply be themselves in the present moment. Through emotional exploration and relational process, Ms. Boucher works to empower her clients to access their innate strengths so they may adeptly pursue their goals.

Ms. Boucher’s clinical interests include self-compassion, mindfulness, identity development, attachment, cultural diversity, relationship difficulties, and depression. She is driven by an ardent desire to help individuals overcome challenges and find deeper meanings in their lives. Each day, she is honored to witness this process.
