Matthew Kendra is currently a third-year doctoral student in clinical psychology at George Mason University. He grew up in the midwest and completed his undergraduate work in Psychology at Miami University (OH) in 2007. He began the PhD clinical psychology program at GMU shortly thereafter.

Prior to coming to GMU CAPS, Matthew has provided individual psychotherapy and assessment services at the GMU Center for Psychological Services. Matthew has also volunteered on a 24-hour crisis hotline, worked as a mental health technician with adolescent inpatients in a psychiatric hospital, and most recently completed an externship in primary care behavioral health at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Washington, D.C.

Matthew's areas of clinical interest include working with young adults with a variety of psychological problems including anxiety and depression. He approaches therapy integratively, from a cognitive-behavioral model with a focus on building the therapeutic relationship. His clinical and research interests also include understanding and changing the stigma of mental health problems. In his free time, he enjoys playing sports and visiting with friends and family.
