Dr. Brett Scofield is a native of Southern Maryland. He completed his B.A. in Psychology from the University of Maryland Baltimore County and his M.S. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Baltimore. Dr. Scofield traveled to Kansas in order to pursue doctoral work in Psychology, receiving his Ph.D. in Community/Clinical Psychology from Wichita State University in 2006. He completed his predoctoral internship at the Thomas E. Cook Counseling Center at Virginia Tech University. After working in a private practice setting as well as the University of Mary Washington, Dr. Scofield joined the staff at Counseling and Psychological Services at George Mason University in July of 2009.
Dr. Scofield’s therapeutic approach is influenced by cognitive-behavioral, interpersonal and existential models. His professional interests include working with individuals experiencing depression, anxiety, and substance-related problems. Dr. Scofield's research interests include substance abuse in college students, treatment approaches that address depression, anxiety, and substance abuse, and the effectiveness of services offered at university-based counseling centers.
In his leisure time, Dr. Scofield enjoys watching movies, spending time with family, reading, and playing sports.
